A social security package worth $1.1 billion has been approved by the government to support workers and employers facing difficulties due to the impact of the pandemic.

Over 11.2 million employees, working at 375,000 businesses, have received a reduction in their insurance premiums for occupational accidents and diseases, worth about VND4.3 trillion (US$187.6 million), according to Vietnam Social Security.

According to statistics of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, up to 12.8 million Vietnamese people aged 15 and older were negatively affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in the second quarter of 2021.

It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people in Hanoi are eligible to receive support from the Covid-19 relief package described in Resolution 68.

Tour guides are subject to the Government’s VND26 trillion support package which aims to help Covid-19-hit businesses and people. However, unclear requirements have may have caused the package to be inaccessible to thousands of tour guides.

The country continues to offer appealing business and investment opportunities given its strong fundamentals.

Workers forced to take unpaid leave from 15 days to below one month would receive VND1.85 million ($80.4) per person, and VND3.71 million ($161.23) if taking an unpaid leave of over one month.

Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung said agencies and localities cannot be slow in disbursing the VND26 trillion support package.

Both employees and employers that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic can gain access to the Government’s support package worth 26 trillion VND (1.13 billion USD) from July 8.

The second support package worth VND886 billion (US$37.8 million) will be directly given to HCMC dwellers who have been affected by the coronavirus epidemic.

With the gradual recovery in the confidence of the business community in the first two months of the year, continued support for enterprises is needed to help them stay afloat and weather the storm.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment is about to submit to the Government for approval the second aid package for Covid-19 affected businesses.
