Japan has overtaken Taiwan as the most popular destination for Vietnamese guest workers, according to the Department of Overseas Labor, under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The Overseas Labor Management Department, under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, has warned of risks for local laborers who illegally go abroad for work, especially in Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

The National Assembly’s Office has said it is working with relevant agencies to verify and handle the case of nine Vietnamese who illegally stayed in the Republic of Korea (RoK) after attending a Vietnam-RoK investment and trade forum.

 Approximately 116,000 Vietnamese labourers were sent abroad to work last year.

 The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will tighten labour export management to stop Vietnamese nationals from quitting their jobs in Taiwan before their contracts end.

 Illegal Vietnamese workers abroad and particularly in the Republic of Korea (RoK) who voluntarily return home from September 1 to December 31 this year will not be imposed with any administrative penalties.
