Around 200 motor caravanners will take part in networking activities with local travel enterprises and exchange ideas for sustainable tourism development in the Mekong Delta during the five-day journey, said Truong Duc Hai, chairman of G7 Travel Group, one of the organisers.

Participating enterprises will have meetings with local authorities to discuss ways to develop local tourism, particularly community-based tourism products, Hai said at a press meeting held on Monday in HCM City.

The journey will be designed with off-the-beaten-track destinations for adventurous travelers, he said.

They will also be involved in various charity activities worth a total of more than VND800 million (US$34,500) to support communities in eight localities.

These activities include installing street lights in Tra Vinh Province, presenting computers to a boarding school for ethnic minorities in Soc Trang Province, building charity houses for poor households in Bac Lieu, giving scholarships to students in Can Tho City, and donating bicycles to pupils in Ben Tre Province.

The Mekong Caravan Tour is co-organised by the Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club, the Vietnam Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises Forum, and the G7 Travel Group. VNS
