Tran Thi Nhi Yen duly finished second to win a silver medal.

Her time of 11 minutes and 40 seconds is also a new personal best. Earlier in the qualifying round of the tournament she recorded a time of 11 minutes and 78 seconds to progress to the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships which will take place in Peru this August. Nhi Yen will also compete in the women’s 200m event.

Vietnam sent a total of six athletes to the 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championships which get underway from April 24 to April 27. They are competing for medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and long jump events.

Tran Thi Nhi Yen, 19, hails from Long An province and secured three gold medals and set three records in the women's 100m, 200m, and long jump events at national championships.
