Water shortages loom for Hanoi as Da River dries up
Citizens in many districts in Hanoi may have to face summer water shortages as the water level in Da River has fallen.
Viwaco JSC which supplies water to residents in Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Cau Giay, Tu Liem and Dong Da districts announced that Hanoi may face a water shortage as the water level in Da River dropped.
Viwaco JSC said they had received the notification from Vinaconex Water Supply Joint Stock Company (Viwasupco).
If Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant does not adjust the amount of water discharged downstream, Viwasupco may have to stop providing fresh water to Hanoi citizens, especially for people in the southwestern parts of the capital.
Viwasupco reported the problem to Hanoi authorities on July 4 because the water level in Da River had shown no signs of rising up and it was not high enough for the company to operate.
Viwasupco said in order to have enough clean water to provide to the citizens until now, they had had to work with Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant.
Meanwhile, leaders of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant said they had enough water for the daily activities.
Hanoi's freshwater is currently provided by five companies including Hanoi Water Company, Ha Dong Water Company, Viwaco JSC, Viwasupco JSC and Duong River Water Company. In which Viwasupco JSC provides clean water from Da River.
