The country’s total caseload now stands at 1,094,514, of which 1,089,411 are the result of the fourth wave of infections that swept the country since late April.

HCM City recorded the highest daily case count with 1,265, followed by Binh Duong with 683 cases and Dong Nai with 604 cases.

Authorities in Hanoi reported 216 new cases.

Among today's new cases, seven were imported and 9,882 were local transmissions. A total of 5,361 infections were detected in the community.

There have been 23,761 COVID-related fatalities in Việt Nam to date, or 2.2 per cent of total cases.

There are two provinces reporting no new cases in the past 14 days – Yen Bai and Bac Kan.

According to the Ministry of Health’s report, 4,971 patients nationwide are in a serious condition, with 458 requiring invasive ventilation and eight on life support (ECMO).

A further 5,163 patients were given the all-clear on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 905,500.

More than 107 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been administered in Vietnam, with over 41 million people fully inoculated.
