From July 30 to August 1, the Party Committee of Vietnam Coast Guard held the fifth congress, the term 2020-2025.

Over the past time, the Coast Guard has focused on thoroughly grasping and seriously implementing the instructions and resolutions of the Party, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of Defense on political and ideological education; Focused on building a strong political force as a basis to improve the synergy in the implementation of functions and tasks.

Reviewing the results of implementing the Resolution of the Party Congress of the 2015 - 2020 term, participants affirmed that the Party Committee of the Vietnam Coast Guard has led the good implementation of political tasks, building a strong and comprehensive Coast Guard force.

Notably, it has led and directed a close coordination between the Vietnam Coast Guard and other forces, firmly grasped the situation at sea, promptly advised the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Defense on the policy and effective handling situations occurred at sea, maintaining the sovereignty, security, peaceful and stable environment for the islands of the country.

Strictly maintaining a regime of combat readiness, improving efficiency of patrol, inspection, control and law enforcement at sea; implementing synchronously and drastically the work of fighting, preventing and handling crimes; actively, proactively performing the search and rescue tasks, well performing the propaganda and dissemination of the law to the people...

The Coast Guard is the core force for law enforcement and management, protection of national sovereignty, sovereignty rights, and jurisdiction.

With the theme "Democracy, solidarity, wisdom, discipline, responsibility", the Congress set out the basic goals in the term 2020-2025: to build "exemplary, typical" Coast Guard forces, performing well functions and assigned tasks; contribute to firmly protect the sovereignty over sea and islands of the country.

Emphasizing on the duties of the Vietnam Coast Guard in the coming period, Deputy Minister of Defense, Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong, directed: In the coming years, the situation of the world and the region will develop quickly, complicatedly, and difficult for being forecast. Large-scale war is less likely to happen, but strategic competition, local conflicts may become more intense. Non-traditional security factors, especially cybersecurity, terrorism, natural disasters, and epidemics continue to be complicated.

Domestically, the country's position and strength, the country's international reputation has been increasingly strengthened and enhanced, creating important premises for the national construction and defense. However, the country faced many difficulties and challenges; new developments in the COVID-19 epidemic, the East Sea, the South West Sea and some strategic areas with potential instability factors; Smuggling, trade fraud, and drug trafficking at sea continues to have new complicated developments.

“The army continues to be interested, led and directed by the Party and State to build in the direction of “Revolutionary, regular, elite, step by step modernization, a number of servicemen, armies and forces go straight ahead to modernity” and the Vietnam Coast Guard is the core force in law enforcement and management, protection of national sovereignty, sovereignty rights, jurisdiction; maintaining security, order and safety at sea. This is a great honor, a high responsibility for the entire force of the Vietnam Coast Guard ”, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized.
