The notice was put up during rush hour while it was pouring down.

Some people said they were confused by the message because they were already on the road and had nowhere to stop. If they did, it could have caused a traffic jam or even an accident, so most of them ignored the message, continued their journeys.

A photo of the sign has been shared on social networks and attracted plenty of comments from netizens.

The Vietnam Expressway Services Engineering Joint Stock Company (VECE), which manages the HCM City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, blamed a staff member for the incident.

The company said the signs were normally updated with information regarding traffic safety, such as "don’t drink and drive". At the time of the incident, because of the heavy rain, a staff member wanted to change the message to warn people.

After detecting the problem, the VECE fixed the display: “Road surface slippery. Please keep a safe distance”. On Monday, the company apologised for the confusion. VNS
