Four localities documented the neew domestic cases, including Ho Chi Minh City (46), Bac Giang (20), Bac Ninh (7) and Nghe An (3).

Most of the cases in the northern provinces of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh are associated with existing outbreaks in their industrial parks or came into contact with infected patients.

41 out of 46 cases in HCM City had made contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients, and the remaining cases are under epidemiological investigation.

Three cases in the northern province of Nghe An were detected in lockdown areas.

With the latest detection, the country has so far logged nearly 13,000 positive COVID-19 cases, including 11,289 local infections and 1,689 imported ones.

As many as 9,719 locally-transmitted cases were registered during the latest COVID-19 wave that hit the nation nearly two months ago.

One day earlier, the country confirmed a total of 308 fresh cases of COVID-19, including 293 local transmissions, and 15 imported ones, with Ho Chi Minh City suffering the highest number of infections at 135.

22 localities have gone at least 14 days without any new COVID-19 case in the community.

Also on June 19 the largest ever COVID-19 vaccination campaign with 786,000 doses administered to Ho Chi Minh City was launched as the southern city is currently a hotspot in the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks.

Local residents are advised to continue strictly following with pandemic prevention and control measures in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 to the wider community.

Vietnam is expected to continue receiving additional supplies of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the COVAX Facility in the near future, including vaccines funded by the Chinese Government.
