Michelle Obama, 55, appeared in a video of Today show on October 12 to mark the International Day of the Girl and revealed the plan.

According to the UN, the International Day of the Girl aims to highlight the needs and challenges faced by girls, while promoting the empowerment and realization of their human rights.

'More than 98 million adolescent girls aren't in school, yet the evidence is clear: When girls get the opportunities they deserve, our whole world benefits. That's why we've been working to lift up grassroots leaders in organizations around the world who improve girls' lives every day,” she said.

"Today, on the Day of the Girl, I am thrilled to share the news that in December I'll be traveling to Vietnam with my friend Jenna Bush Hager - and a few other special guests, too,” she revealed.

Special guests mentioned by Michelle Obama include Julia Roberts, Lana Condor and Vietnamese actress Ngo Thanh Van (Veronica Ngo).

"Now in the meantime, I hope all of you will find a way to support these girls. And you don't have to fly to Vietnam. You can host a bake sale, help your children organize a project in their classroom, or get involved in your office as well. Anything you can do will make a difference for us all because the future of our world is only as bright as our girls," Mrs. Obama said.

"I'm so excited, guys! We are going to Vietnam with Mrs. Obama. It's an awesome opportunity to help shine a light on all of those that are helping keep girls in school," Jenna Bush Hager said.

The group will meet Vietnamese girls and educators, and share their stories on Today and YouTube.
