Vo Thi Trung Trinh, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Information and Communications, talks about the city’s plan to launch a shared digital map

At a conference on the development of a shared digital map, held today, September 12, Vo Thi Trung Trinh, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Information and Communications, said the development of a shared digital map is an important part of the city’s plan to develop a shared database.

Departments and agencies are advised to provide comments on and suggest requirements for the shared digital map. The map will be created according to these requirements.

The shared digital map will be developed in two phases. In the first phase, the city will hire a map developer to draw a background map. If it meets the city’s requirements, the city will add information provided by the relevant departments and agencies.

In the second phase, the HCMC Department of Information and Communications will coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to propose further solutions for completing the shared digital map.

Ly Minh Tuan, director of the Information Technology and Communications Center, under the HCMC Department of Information and Communications, was cited by news site Vietnamplus as saying that the shared digital map’s development is necessary and urgent.

The map should be updated frequently to contribute to the development of the city’s open data ecosystem, a major task associated with transforming HCMC into a smart city. SGT
