According to Ho Chi Minh City's Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control, there are 859 children under 16 years old being treated for Covid-19 in the city. Experts say that children with Covid-19 usually have mild symptoms and recover quickly.

In the 4th outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, the city has had a total of 419,599 cases of Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Health’s statistics.

At present, a total of 11,409 patients are under treatment, including 369 severe cases. There are 859 patients who are children under 16 years old. Experts say that infected children usually recover quickly, with mild symptoms. Severe cases are often children who are obese and have underlying disease.

By October 19, the city had administered a total of 12,648,484 vaccine doses. As many as 5,520,023 people are fully vaccinated with two doses. Up to 98.9% of people aged 18 and over have had one dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 76.6% of them have been fully vaccinated. 

According to the municipal Department of Health, the city's epidemic situation is at level 2. However, this level needs to be re-evaluated every week.

On October 22, HCMC recorded the highest number of new infection cases in Vietnam, at 1,255, down by 92 day-on-day, followed by Binh Duong with 483, Dong Nai with 390, Tay Ninh with 185, An Giang with 174, Soc Trang with 109 and Bac Lieu with 102. Other provinces reported fewer than 100 cases each.

The latest domestic cases sent the country’s total in the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April, to 872,811, with 795,307 of them having recovered.
