Nguyen Viet Hung introduces the system

The system, operating online, will help managers, technical staff, and field construction teams operate the drainage network, tide prevention gates and pumping stations and improve the city's ability to control floods. It will also help with the management, maintenance, periodic repair, and updating of the new connection points.

As such, enterprises and people will be able to easily access necessary information useful for their business and production.

According to Nguyen Viet Hung, data about urban drainage systems serves flood control. However, HCM City still does not have a database on urban drainage infrastructure which fully shows the coordinates and altitudes of the city.

The system, operating online, will help managers, technical staff, and field construction teams operate the drainage network, tide prevention gates and pumping stations and improve the city's ability to control floods. It will also help with the management, maintenance, periodic repair, and updating of the new connection points.

This is because state management agencies do not update information and figures regularly. Meanwhile, because of the bad management, the database about infrastructure quickly gets lost. This creates difficulties for management, maintenance and repair of works and building of new works.

Therefore, Hung and his co-workers decided to develop an online system to manage the water drainage system and the anti-flood system which can integrate into the city’s existing HCMGIS system.

The building of the system aims to improve the efficiency of the management, planning and operation of the drainage system in HCM CIty, as well as provide useful information to agencies and people on the current state of the drainage system and the situation of flooding.

The system shares information among agencies and departments in the city that serves management and urban planning, especially in easing floods and minimizing damage caused by floods.

The system allows administrators to retrieve detailed data to coordinate drainage activities.

The authors have built the online management system on the Web and Apps on mobile phone platform (Android, iOS) to supervise the water drainage network, manage the assets of drainage network, monitor the progress of maintaining the drainage sluice network, canals, dykes and anti-flood works.

Users can search for information about the city’s drainage system and the flooding situation on computers or mobile phones.

The authors spent two years in the field to prepare for the building of the system. They learned about the current status of the drainage system in the city, and the works undertaken by managers to build suitable features.
