The sea and island week, to last from June 1-8, and the action month for the environment, to take place throughout June, are in response to World Oceans Day (June 8) and World Environment Day (June 5), according to head of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands Ta Dinh Thi.

Under the campaigns, the dissemination of the Party and State’s guidelines, policies, and laws on the protection of the environment and national sea and islands, as well as relevant messages of the United Nations, will be stepped up, helping to raise public awareness of this matter.

Accordingly, an array of community-based programmes and activities will be held in Bac Lieu on May 31, including mangrove forestation work, inauguration of a playground for children from families relocated from protective forests, a conference on Vietnam’s marine economic development strategy by 2030 with a vision towards 2045, and a painting exhibition featuring environmental protection and economic development in the Mekong Delta.

The launching ceremony is scheduled to be organised at Bac Lieu city’s Square on June 1, during which organisations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions in this regard will be honoured, and the next ocean ambassador will be announced.

The same day, there will be a groundbreaking ceremony for a wind power plant in Vinh Hau A commune, Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu city; a conference on investment in Vietnamese maritime brand names; and other sidelines events. –VNA
