The number of 5G subscribers in Southeast Asia might hit 200 million.

The report also said that Viet Nam and Singapore are expected to lead the way in Southeast Asia by launching 5G technology in the region in 2020-2021.

A representative of Cisco Viet Nam said that even though the market penetration rate in Viet Nam was slower to start, it was likely to grow faster than in other regional countries.

By deploying 5G services, Vietnamese telecommunication firms could raise their revenue by up to US$300 million each year from 2025, it noted.

However, Vietnamese mobile service providers will have to invest $1.5-2.5 billion in infrastructure development in the 2020-25 period for launching and operating the 5G service, the report said.

They also need to build a list of services and prices for 5G networks to encourage users to switch to high-speed networks, it added. — VNS
