Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee Hoang Thanh Tung has announced the establishment of a supervision team of "The implementation of the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Resolutions on the arrangement of district and commune level administrative units in the period of 2019-2021”.

The supervisory team has Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh as its head, and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Legal Committee Hoang Thanh Tung and Head of the National Assembly’s Deputy Affairs Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh as the vice heads.

The scope of supervision is the implementation of the Resolutions of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of administrative units at district and commune levels in the period 2019-2021 in 45 provinces and centrally run cities from January 2019 to June 2021.

The objects of supervision are the Government, relevant agencies and organizations, and local authorities in the provinces and centrally-run cities where administrative units at district and commune levels are re-arranged.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, through the arrangement of administrative units at district and commune levels in the period of 2019-2021, the number of district-level administrative units has been reduced to by eight, from 713 to 705, and the number of administrative units at commune level slashed by 563 units, from 11,162 to 10,599.

The total number of civil servants at the newly formed district-level administrative units after the arrangement is 2,141 people, including 589 redundancies.

The total number of civil servants at the newly formed commune-level administrative units after the arrangement is 18,834 people, including 8,488 redundancies.
