The French Embassy in Vietnam said in a press release that the aid will be used for a feasibility study on the restoration of Long Bien Bridge. The study will be conducted by a French consulting firm.

Long Bien Bridge, formerly called the Paul Doumer Bridge, spans the Red River, linking Hoan Kiem and Ba Dinh districts with Long Bien District. Designed by the French, construction of this bridge started in 1898, with it completed in 1902.

It is 1.8 kilometres long and has pedestrian access. The bridge was damaged many times during the American War.

Long Bien Bridge has been continuously repaired as it has aged.
