In the match played behind closed doors, the team ended the first half with a one goal deficit following a mistake in defence.

However, the Vietnamese side came out stronger in the second half and reversed the result with two goals by Pham Duc Hoa and Nguyen Dac Huy.

The triumph over Iraq continues the national futsal team’s perfect momentum ahead of competing in two play-off matches to earn a slot at the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Vietnam are now set to compete in a two-legged tie against Lebanon, with matches slated for May 23 and May 25.

After the friendly match against Iraq, head coach Pham Minh Giang dropped three players and completed his final lineup of 14 players registered for the play-off round.

If they are able to gain victory over Lebanon, Vietnam will win a ticket to the finals of the FIFA Futsal World Cup for the second time, having previously participated in the global tournament in Colombia for the first time back in 2016.

The 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup is scheduled to take place in Lithuania between September 12 and October 3.
