The grassroots community project, founded in 2015, provides individually sponsored presents and essential supplies for orphanages and communities in need around Vietnam’s biggest annual holiday and has two events coming up to raise funds to help give the underprivileged a special Tet.

Members of the project will run a stall at ‘The Spot - Christmas Fest 2020’, a Christmas market held in Tay Ho District on Sunday where they will accept non-monetary general donations, completed donations from pre-registered donors and explain how the project runs to anyone interested. Entry is free.

Then, on December 23, a charity quiz with prizes like bottles of spirits at The Snug, also in Tay Ho District, will be held to supplement general donations for the project.

The VND100,000 (US$4.32) quiz entrance fee entitles entrants to a free drink and will go towards funding purchases of essential items for the groups the project is helping. Non-monetary general donations will also be accepted at the event, which also includes live music.

Non-monetary general donations can include toiletries, books, crayons, pencils, diapers, shoes and more. A full list of suggested donations can be found on the project's Facebook page, Tet Shoeboxes Project.

The Tet Shoeboxes Project has provided more than 800 gifts to orphanages and communities in need in and around Hanoi over the past five years.  VNS

It’s perhaps a child’s greatest right to dream and enjoy a happy life. While many hold great ambition, others simply dare to dream of a normal life without illness.
