Eight members of the ensemble visiting Hanoi this time are cellist Asep Hidayat as leader of the ensemble, sopranist Ika Wahyuningsih, pianist Yuti Lauda, guitarist Jardika Eka Tirtana, conductor Aldy Maulana, cellist Neam S.R Hidayat, violinist Ega Putra Twedapinta, and clarinetist Alfian Agus Nursanto.

They will perform contemporary music pieces by well-known Indonesian composers such as Gatot Danar, Tony Maryana, Budhi Ngurah, and Aldi Maulana, according to the Goethe-Institut.

The New Yogyakarta Contemporary Ensemble visits Vietnam at the invitation of the Hanoi New Music Ensemble. Earlier in July, the Vietnamese ensemble traveled to Yogyakarta for a concert at the invitation of the New Yogyakarta Contemporary Ensemble.

The Goethe-Institut supported this initiative and the idea of dialogue and exchange of contemporary music between the two ensembles.

The New Yogyakarta Contemporary Ensemble was founded in October 2017 by leading Indonesian cellist Asep Hidayat. Members of the ensemble play both western and Indonesian music.

Their uniqueness lies in their effort to translate traditions from other countries into a new language. Although a newly-established ensemble, it has seen its reputation grown beyond the boundaries of Indonesia.

The event offers free admission.
