The Vietnam Football Federation chose to play the fixture in Binh Duong in order for players from the national team to get used to the weather conditions ahead of their crucial game against Malaysia in the Asian zone’s second qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup which will be played on March 31.

At present, Vietnam top Group G with 11 points from five matches. They are trailed by Malaysia in second with nine points, followed by Thailand in third place on eight points, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in fourth on six points, and finally Indonesia are bottom of the group with zero points.

Following the game against Malaysia the national team will then take on Indonesia at the My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi on June 4, before travelling away to play the UAE in an important tie just five days later.

It is expected that the national team’s head coach Park Hang-seo will return to Vietnam on February 15 in order to organise training sessions for the national team ahead of their gathering on March 21. VOV
