The “Chuyen Pho” (Street Stories) exhibition features nearly 40 new works created this year by Vu Bich Thuy, Tran Luu My, Doan Hoang Lam, Tao Linh and Nguyen Minh.

The only woman in the group, Vu Bich Thuy, brings to the exhibition her own experience through everyday stories, with a personal perspective of a family-oriented woman. Thuy’s paintings depict small street corners, plant pots on the doorstep, or afternoon sunshine, using light-hearted color palette.

Tran Luu My’s abstract paintings feature houses and trees with lots of wind and sunshine. His paintings remind viewers of a quiet middle-aged man walking along a windy street.

Nguyen Minh is the youngest artist in the group. His streets are somewhere on the outskirts, somewhere between the village and the city. The streets and the trees in his paintings evoke memories of his childhood in the village.

Doan Hoang Lam’s stories seem to be full of anxiety. The stories can be about a screaming cat on a roof at night, children waiting for their mother in the evening, or everyday life in the city.

Tao Linh tells another story about the streets. From city people’s hobby of raising goldfish in a tank, the artist leads viewers into a different living space in the city streets - a psychological space. With a minimal style, all eight of Tao Linh’s paintings are like a whisper, a metaphor about the streets, or a story about his personal dark corner.
