Da Lat boasts beautiful natural scenery: jade-colored lakes, pine forested hill, peaceful valleys, and an abundance of resorts.

The city enjoys a mild climate which often transitions through the four seasons in a single day: a cool spring breeze in the morning, summer sun at noon, a cool dry autumn wind in the afternoon, and winter cold at night.

Da Lat is famous for its colorful flowers. There are numerous festivals in Da Lat, but the Flower Festival with its many art performances is the most anticipated.

The 2019 Da Lat Flower Festival will take place in Da Lat and Bao Loc and several other localities in Lam Dong province on from December 20 to 24.

Ton Thien San, Chairman of the Da Lat municipal People’s Committee and chief organizer of the Festival, said: "The flower festival brings us economic profit, promotes local tourism, honors florists, and encourages horticulture. At this year’s flower festival, there will be shows in both Da Lat and Bao Loc city featuring Ao dai made from Da Lat silk.”

12 programs will honor the flower industry in Da Lat, including an opening ceremony at Lam Vien square, exhibitions of flowers in major streets and five nearby flower villages, and an exhibition of flowers and bonsais involving foreign artisans.

A tea and silk cultural week will be held in Bao Loc city as part of the festival. Iconic flowers of Da Lat city will be arranged around Xuan Huong Lake, and will, for the very first time, change depending on each day’s theme.

The arrangements will showcase new flowers and ornamental trees selected by the Da Lat Flower Association.

Nguyen Van Duong, a Da Lat flower garden owner who will participate in Festival, said, “We always listen to recommendations from tourists and travel agencies for improving our products. Innovation and creativity are important for us to capitalize on market trends.”

First held in 2005, the Da Lat Flower Festival has contributed substantially to local economic development, according to Chairman San.

He noted, “Da Lat city’s growth rate in recent years has exceeded 10%. Thanks to the festival, the number of tourists visiting our city has grown. It was six million in 2018, 200 times Da Lat’s population. Tourism is a great driver of local economic growth.”

Da Lat was officially recognized by the Prime Minister as A Flower Festival City of Vietnam in 2012. VOV
