Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology are among 801-1,000 group while the Vietnam National University, HCM City, was in 1001+ group. The overall scores for the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology are both around 22.2-28.2.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi has higher scores in teaching, research and international outlook than other Vietnamese universities. Hanoi University of Science and Technology has the highest citations score while the Vietnam National University, HCM City has high industry income.

The Vietnam National University, HCM City and Vietnam National University, Hanoi were also ranked in the groups 701-1,000 in the QS World University Rankings 2019. Many departments of the university have been included in the world rankings such as the engineering-mechanical, aeronautical and manufacturing which was ranked among 451-500 group in the QS ranking.

It is the only university in Vietnam that was listed in the rankings of the Best Global Universities for Physics announced by the US News & World Report. It was ranked 502nd globally in Physics.

This year, THE Rankings include 1,395 universities from 92 countries. Oxford University continues to lead the rankings followed by the California Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge. The California Institute of Technology rises from the fifth to second place.

Top universities in Asia include Tsinghua and Peking universities finishing at 23rd and 24th place respectively and the National University of Singapore is at 25th. In Southeast Asia, Thailand has 16 universities listed in the ranking and Indonesia has six universities.

The ranking is based on five major areas of teaching (the learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research) and industry income (knowledge transfer).
