elderly people and children hospitalised due to cold weather picture 1
The number of elderly people sent to hospital for respiratory illness increase sharply

In recent days, the Department of the Medical Examination and Treatment and Emergency Department of Bach Mai Hospital has become overloaded. Most of patients have become ill due to the bad weather. Many suffer from issues such as strokes, high blood pressure, bones and joints, cardiovascular issues, and respiratory problems.

Dangers from the cold conditions are particularly high for the elderly, especially senior citizens. Senior people with heart disease, high blood pressure, and respiratory problems have leaped drastically in many Hanoi-based hospitals, including Bach Mai, National Geriatric Hospital, E Hospital, and Thanh Nhan Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Vietnam National Children's Hospital and Saint Paul Hospital have also seen an increase in hospitalisation of kids who suffer from weather-related diseases.

If not detected and treated promptly, patients can still be at risk of developing severe complications.

Medical experts have therefore advised parents to keep their kids warm and provide them with nutritious meals in order to strengthen their resistance. In addition, they should also maintain children’s personal hygiene standards.

Additionally, kids exposed to the cold weather are likely to suffer from diarrhea and fever due to virus. Medical workers have advised to take children to see a doctor rather than buying medicines by themselves.

Meanwhile, physicians said that elderly people should wear socks in order to keep them warm when going outside for exercise.
