As of late October, the country had imported 618,800 tons of meat worth US$1.19 billion, increasing 2% in volume and 16.2% in value compared with the same period last year. On the other hand, Vietnam exported 15,310 tons of meat worth US$60.12 million in 10 months.

The United States, Brazil, Russia, India and Germany were the five biggest meat suppliers for Vietnam.

Vietnam imported 135,450 tons of frozen pork worth US$312.84 million from January to October, soaring 27.7% in volume and nearly 23% in value year-on-year. Russia was Vietnam’s biggest supplier of frozen pork, accounting for nearly 40% of the country’s total frozen pork imports, followed by Brazil with 15.7%, Germany with 12.4%, Canada with 10.6% and Poland with 4.6%.


The country also imported some 50,000 tons of beef worth US$220 million, half of it from Australia.

According to the Agency of Foreign Trade, Vietnam is exporting meat and meat products to 14 markets, with China being the largest buyer.

In October, the country exported some 2,000 tons of meat and meat products worth US$7.52 million to China, soaring 61.2% in volume and 5.2% in value from the previous month.

Vietnam's total import turnover of livestock products in the first six months of 2021 is estimated at US$1.82 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.9 per cent.
