The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority (CAAV) said that, according to the policy of the Ministry of Transport on the operation of international flights, on December 17 and 24, 2021, the agency sent letters to a number of partners, including the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China, proposing restoration of regular flights between the two countries.

On January 17, 2022, the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China responded to the CAAV’s proposal. Accordingly, the agency agreed with the CAAV’s view on the importance of restoring regular passenger flights between the two countries.

However, with the number of Covid-19 cases still high in the world as well as in China, strict measures are being taken through the "State Committee for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19".

The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China has not been assigned the authority to discuss with aviation authorities of other countries about the restoration of international flights. The agency therefore cannot agree with the CAAV’s proposal on the resumption of regular flights between the two countries.

The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China said it would update information to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam as soon as the Chinese side relaxes control measures.

Since January 1, 2022, Vietnam has operated regular international flights between Vietnam and the US, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Taipei, Singapore, and Europe.
