Bank, e-wallet customers warned of scams
Techcombank and Vietnamese ewallet service provider MoMo have warned their customers to be wary of scammers, noting that they should be more cautious when asked to provide their account details and personal information.

Scammers typically contact bank account holders by telephone, on social media or by email, claiming that the customers have won a large prize and asking them to provide security information for their accounts.
The information, including ID numbers, telephone numbers, email addresses, passwords to bank accounts and one-time passwords, gives them access to the customers’ money, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported, citing Techcombank’s warnings to its customers.
Scammers may make friends with bank customers, ask them to open bank accounts or register for internet banking services or other bank services and then buy these accounts at high prices to facilitate their fraudulent activities, a representative of Techcombank said.
These individuals even pretend to be customers’ relatives, friends or clients when asking them to visit trick websites or download virus-laden mobile apps to steal their information.
Besides this, scammers may also pose as police officers or bank staff and tell clients that their accounts have been attacked by fraudsters before asking them to provide their bank account details, according to Techcombank.
Meanwhile, ewallet service supplier MoMo has frequently warned its users not to give anyone, including MoMo’s staff, their passwords or one-time passwords.
Anyone asking customers to provide this information is likely a scammer, a representative of MoMo stated.
Customers have repeatedly been advised by banks and ewallet service suppliers to be more vigilant about messages and calls announcing prize wins, to protect their account details and avoid losing money.
Users should not use their name to open accounts or register bank services for others, Techcombank remarked, adding that customers should not lend their cards or accounts to others.
Customers were also advised not to transfer money to others when they receive unknown calls or messages requesting it. SGT
